#ITSTARTS is a public awareness initiative developed by the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership to encourage positive communication among residents to reduce racism and discrimination. This year’s event will expand to include the Local Immigration Partnership of Lanark & Renfrew as well as the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership.

Panelists:

Barb Clarke is a professor in the Social Sciences teaching at the intersections of political economy and social issues. She strives to teach compassion and courage in seeing people, communities, regions, and the world differently. While awkward, she rejects sameness as a template for social understanding. "It is convenient, self-satisfied, and tragic."

Lenore Keeshig (formerly Keeshig-Tobias) is a member of the Chippewas of the Nawash Unceded First Nation, on the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula, a part of the traditional homeland of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Keeshig is a storyteller, naturalist, mother, and grandmother.

Michèle Newton is a tenured communicator turned speaker, advocate and educational consultant, driving inclusion and belonging. Michèle shares her intersectionality and Black lived experiences through keynote speaking and educational workshops. A public relations and communications expert with over 25 years experience, Michèle provides unique insights and leading expertise through an equity lens.
